Tower blocks: the tallest modular hotel
Marriott International is set to open a new modular hotel in New York in late 2020. Once complete, the structure is set to become the world’s tallest modular hotel. We take a look at how the design and construction slots together.
Marriott partnered with renowned architecture firm, Danny Forster & Architecture, to create a concept that utilises the efficiency of modular construction without compromising the aesthetic appeal of traditional hotel design.
Each of the tower’s 168 guest rooms will be prefabricated in a factory in Poland. Once the modules are complete, they will be shipped to New York, where a crane will lift each unit into place.
The prefabricated guest rooms will be fully constructed before they reach New York, complete with beds, bedding, flooring, and even toiletries.
The roof and rooftop bar will also be constructed using modular units, however, other public areas including the hotel’s restaurant and lobby will be built using traditional methods
Once completed, the $65m, 168-room, 26-story AC Hotel New York NoMad (842 Sixth Avenue) will become the world’s tallest modular hotel.
